The Forest Department, Manipur is the organization in the state dedicated to the development and improvement of Forests and Wildlife of Manipur. The Department is headed by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Manipur under the guidance of the Administrative Department in charge of Forests and Environment in the Secretariat.

The Department deals with variety of issues ranging from protection, plantation, enforcement of laws, ensuring peoples participation in forest management, development of bamboo resources, protected areas management, recommending/ rejecting clearance of projects in forest areas, providing alternate livelihood opportunities to forest dependent communities, regulation of extraction of timber, collection of revenue from forest based products, fire control, research in forestry sector, raising and distribution of seedlings, awareness, observation and celebration of important events pertaining to Forests, soil moisture conservation activities, eco-tourism, in-situ and ex-situ conservation etc.

With more than 76% of the geographical area under forest cover, the Forest Department is the single largest manager of the states vast valuable natural resources
